Kim Carter, Ed.S., Superintendent of Battle Creek Public Schools received her undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN, Masters in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University and Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Michigan, Flint.
Carter began her professional service as a teacher in Kalamazoo Public Schools. As an advocate for worker’s rights and passionate educator, her tenure in KPS included service as a teacher, union president, and elementary principal. During her tenure as principal, Mrs. Carter created and implemented systems of change that successfully increased achievement and aided the school in making adequate yearly progress under her leadership. This success launched her work as a District Partnership Director with Partners in School Innovation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen teaching, learning and achievement in underperforming public schools and districts.
With over 20 years of experience in public education, equity, inclusivity and success for every child she serves remains at the center of her work. Known for her collaborative approach to leadership, Carter plans to continue to seek ways to create systems of change that ensure all children have access to, and the benefit of, a high quality, equitable public education.
