Michigan Alliance for Student Opportunity praises Governor’s 2023-2024 budget recommendation

LANSING, Mich. – Peter Spadafore, executive director of the Michigan Alliance for Student Opportunity (The Alliance), issued the following statement today praising Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2023-2024 fiscal year budget recommendation:

“Gov. Whitmer’s budget proposal hits on the areas that help students most. The 5 percent K-12 per-pupil boost will provide a historic investment in our students across the state. The plan to guarantee all 1.4 million Michigan students receive breakfast and lunch shows that the administration is committed to ensuring our students have the best possible environment to learn in. Students who are hungry do not perform well and making sure our students are well fed will improve educational outcomes. This is an investment in our students today and Michigan’s future for years to come.

“The governor’s budget recommendation provides meaningful and historic investments in schools with the biggest challenges. We look forward to working with our partners in the administration and the legislature on making this historic budget recommendation become a reality for students, parents, and educators.”
